Sandgate a vibrant and historic seaside village continues to be popular with day trippers thanks to its relaxed vibe, cute cafes, kitsch small bars, and coastal fun. The architectural beauty of both civic and residential buildings throughout Sandgate makes this coastal village one of Moreton Bay's heritage showpieces.
Shorncliffe, a bayside suburb adjoining Sandgate, is 17 km north-west of central Brisbane. Situated on Cabbage Tree Head, the name was derived from Shorn Cliff (1852), describing the head land when viewed from Moreton Bay.
Deagon, a residential suburb on the Shorncliffe railway line, is 16 km north of central Brisbane. It is partly separated from Sandgate by a series of lagoons and former water reserves, and is bounded on the south by the Cabbage Tree Creek. Deagon was chosen by the Sandgate townspeople as the location for its local racecourse.
Brighton, a coastal suburb, is 19 km north of central Brisbane and immediately north of Sandgate. It faces Bramble Bay, which is crossed by the heritage-listed Hornibrook Highway (1935) to Redcliffe. Brighton's northern shoreline is mangrove wetland, partly reclaimed in the 1930s, and its western boundary is Bald Hills Creek.
